Karén Tonoyan
Karén is a technology, intellectual property, and business attorney and consultant with a passion for technology and innovation.Originally from Ukraine and currently operating from the areas of New York, New Jersey, and Armenia, he holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Physics and in Philosophy, as well as a Juris Doctorate degree in Law.Prior to opening his own practice in 2023, over the past 11 years he has worked at multiple law firms, ranging from small specialized boutique firms to some of the largest firms in the US. Prior to his time at the law firms, Karén worked in the IT field as well as at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he specialized in computerized, electronic, and electro-mechanical devices.Karén zealously helps clients protect their intellectual property and overcome their business hurdles. His practice is focused on helping startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) establish and develop their product and service lines through comprehensive analysis and future-oriented international strategic planning at the intersection of technology, law, and finance. Successfully creating, bringing to market, and scaling innovative products and services requires an interdisciplinary approach that Karén provides for the benefit and advancement of his clients.Although Karén drafts and prosecutes patent applications across a wide range of technologies and fields, he focuses on electrical, electro-mechanical, and computer-related technologies, including Wi-Fi, 5G, telecommunications, IoT, smart devices, artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural networks, cloud computing, signals processing, visual and voice recognition, wireless communications, semiconductor manufacturing/processing, cybersecurity, video games, and networking. He also protects the interests of content creators, artists, entertainers, and startup entrepreneurs by utilizing the advantages provided by trademark, copyright, and other intellectual property tools and international agreements. He counsels clients on business strategies, trademarks, patentability, infringement, investment and financing agreements, licensing, service and distribution agreements, privacy and compliance policies, and liability issues and helps clients develop successful intellectual property portfolio strategies.Karén is fluent in Eastern and Western Armenian as well as Russian and is also conversant in Spanish, Ukrainian, and Turkish. He currently leads Tono Law Group, LLC, bringing over a decade of legal, business, and technical experience for the benefit of his clients.
